GE 25GT240 CTC185 All snow Unit has no reception at all. All tuning voltages at the U7401(5,6,7, & 8) are railed to 33 vdc no mater what channel we were on. When checking the B+ from the power supply source we found that CR4116 had no B+. C4112 a 47 mfd capacitor in the 9 volt supply was shorted. This preventer the Mixer/ Oscillator from running.
GE 25GT240 CTC185 All snow CTC185AA7.. Unit has no reception at all. All tuning voltages at the U7401(5,6,7, & 8) are railed to 33 vdc no mater what channel we were on. When checking the power suppply voltages for the tuner we found everything normal. Checking load side of U7401(5) along the path called "Prescaler" through R4707, and R7315 we found the voltage being loaded down untill we got to R7306 where the voltage was eventually pulled down to less than 3 volts. Measuring resistance at the junction of R7306 & R7307 finds it was approx 1100 ohms. It should be in the 20+ meg ohms. We fiund a shorted C7314 a 1000pf coupling capacitor. PN #192020
RCA 25Gt615 CTC185 Audio CTC185 unit has low level 60 hertz hum through speaker when the volume is low or muted. Tech needs to check the 26 volt supply in the secondary of the Flyback. It supplies the 26 volts necessary for the vertical output as well as the 26 volts needed for the audio output. An open low pass filter is known to cause this symptom.

RCA 27GT517 CTC185 B+ regulation poor CTC185AB Unit had shorted flyback transformer but after transformer was replaced the main 130 vdc supply drops to 56 volts and Q4114 overheats The way I work on these unit is place a jumper between Q4114(D&S). reduce the AC line voltage to 85 volts and turn on. If the set operates then the problem is the regulator circuit. If it does not then the trouble resides in the start up or Horizontal output circuit. Assuming the set is running in this configuration now you can scope the power supply, measure voltages, do what ever you need to do to troubleshoot that section. The voltages and signals should look and measure like they should if the power supply were running correctly. At least up to Q4113. When checking the signal on Q4102 the Pulse was good. Turned out there wase no pulse on Q4113. Had a bad U4103. This was all replaced with the kit in (231523). Q4102 was also bad.

  25GT517 CTC185 Dead CTC185 Set was dead. Tech replaced EPROM, now tuning has been effected. Customer is on outside antenna. Cannot receive all channels clearly as before. Tech calling for tuner alignment values for this model. It is unfortunate the tech did not download the parameters or try to initialize the EPROM before replacing it. There are no absolute values that can be plugged into this tuner alignment that will guarantee correct operation. The values for this tuner are unique to this tuner only. This set will have to under go a complete tuner alignment in order to expect normal tuner operations under various signal conditions.

GE 25GT616 CTC185 dead Unit will not turn on The stand by supply is fine. When the power button is pushed there is no activity from the CPU. The CPU needs 3 major things to run. B+, Clock, Reset, and ground. The reset on U3101(2) measured 4.3 volts DC. But when an oscilloscope is measuring the same point we found a 5 to 20 milli second wide pulse at 5 volts peak to peak. This pulse was resetting the CPU every 100 to 150 milli seconds. Replacing the U3101corrected the symptom.

It appear that customers, unknowingly try to plug in their VCR, DVD player or stereo amp to those holes. The center pin of the plug to gets inserted into the potentiometers for either the focus or screen controls. A little twist of the wrist and the control moves and now the TV has a new symptom. If you see this don't look for a hardware problem!!!! This is how the voltages can be so often changing without anything being wrong with the set. Thanks to Mike for bringing this to my attention.
RCA 25GT240 CTC185 High voltage missing CTC185..Unit has no high voltage. Unit will not power up. Tech check the collector in the Horizontal driver stage. The collector dropped from 16 volts to 0 at the instant of power up. The 2400 ohm current limiting resistor in the collector circuit of the Horizontal driver measured 267k . Tech replaced the resistor the set was returned to normal.
RCA 25GT517 CTC185 High voltage missing CTC185 chassis. Not high voltage. Standby voltages are normal, but the collector voltage at Q4401 are not constant. As soon as set is turned on the voltages at Q4401 drops to zero when the Source voltage Q4115(S) voltages remain at 160 vdc. Problem related to a crack on the CBA near the twist tab for the Horizontal output heat sink.

press menu on tv ,select parental lock #4 on menu. With remote press in sequence mute,display,clear,reset. (Need RCA remote for this) Tech needs remote to access the Menu command and de-select front panel lock out.

Tech feels the Chipper Checker is needed to Initialize the EPROM. Chipper checker did not cure the symptom. The CPU was fault since it handles all of the OSD circuitry.

May get so hot that the heat sink tab that secures the heat sink to the board will melt the plastic rail that the board slides in to. After repairing the power supply the supply still runs unusually hot. Tech needs to check R4103. Manual says it is a 0.51 ohms. In the set we had a 0.21 ohms. But in the Electronic Servicing Information (ESI) software indicated it was a 0.12. Changed value to the 0.12 and it corrected the over heating symptom.

Nothing else wrong This chassis had the G2 adjustment exposed so access can be gained from the rear of the set. GE 26GT616 CTC185 Shutdown RCA CTC185AB 26GT616. Serial # 645626945N. Unit has a symptom of loosing vertical sweep intermittently then shutting down. This unit will run for several hours without showing any defects but after a certain amount of time the unit will shut down and loose the previous channel. It will always turn back on to channel 3. CR4704 Diode a 207878 12 volt rectifier diode is know to cause vertical failures in this and older chassis 187 and 177. They may have different part location numbers but the symptom is the same. Tech needs to replace the CR4704 and monitor the 12 volts source voltage for stability. As the set runs the voltage at the cathode has about 2 volts ripple in the cathode. The ripple is at 16.6 milliseconds which is the vertical rate. Unit has a defective CR4704

RCA   CTC185 vertical RCA CTC185 Unit has no vertical sweep. All components from the vertical output to the "T" Chip are good. We have no vertical drive from the "T" chip. Parameter 20 was set to 22. It must be 0. It is the vertical count down parameter that if incorrectly set, the television will not have vertical sweep. Also it will not be changed if initialized with chipper checker because it does not contain that parameter value in the initialization string provided by RCA and their computer initialization software. This was discovered by checking the EPROM map of the CTC185. Tech had to download EPROM contents, then edit the file using Microsoft Notepad. Changing the parameter {hex20} to {hex00} and uploading it back to the television corrected the symptom.
RCA   CTC185 vertical RCA CTC185 Customer has an intermittent symptom of double images and loss of vertical sync phase. After asking the customer this symptom has only manifested itself a couple of times and the vertical phase lock only once. We have to not concern ourselves with the latter symptom because it has only shown 1 time. If it persists then we'll look into it. The Double images are a ghosting that occurs to the right of the main image. It appears we may have an environmental condition where the CATV may be the cause of this symptom. TV check out fine with the "TAP" test. No apparent loose connections found
