Hitachi 43FDX01B DP05 1080i Unit will not display the 1080i mode. All other modes operate correctly There is a factory up date bulletin # PTV00-17 tyhsat instructs the service center to a two SMD capacitors to the signal board. The capacitors are to be placed near the center of the circuit board at locations RO03 & ROC3. These were intended for resistors but were left blank. The capacitors are a 1000pf @ 50 volts. Part number 0893031R
Hitachi 60FX32B AP62 AUDIO (choppy) 60FX32B. AP62 chassis audio is choppy and distorted. Cust is on CATV. Distorted audio shows up on all station that broadcast SAP audio. The effect gets worse the higher as channel selection is increased Tuner has been changed. Tuner incorporates the MTS decoder which handles the SAP and stereo decoders. However when the tuner was replaced the problem did not clear up Hitachi has no recommendations as to where the trouble lies. Every indication points to tuner. The tuner was replaced again and the trouble was solved.
Hitachi 60FX13B AP63 audio (flanging) 60SX13K V7A000744. Unit has a flanging effect in audio. Tech replaced the surround module and still has same symptom Part replaced is a JT05072 audio surround module. This module has all electronics that simulate the "Matrix" effect of surround audio. The effect in the audio is an echo of about 150 milli second seconds. The echo will reduce in to 20 to 50 Milliseconds in 10 to 15 minutes. 50 Milli seconds is the normal delay. This only occurs in the Matrix audio mode. Initializing the EPROM does not effect the symptom. Problem is located in the passive Dolby decoder IC location IS01.
Hitachi 60FX55B AP74 audio (Missing features) 60UX55K. This is the customers 3rd set. They are complaining about the audio does not have any special sounding effects except for "Matrix mode" Discovered that customer is only using the set in the External video input mode from a VCR. The VCR is a NON-MTS Stereo VCR. The Dolby Surround will not have any effect until the unit receives discrete stereo. Currently the set has only R+L or mono. When

Hitachi CT4533k VP9X Auto Program (inoperative) Hitachi CT4533k Auto program will not function. Channels can be manuals stored but not automatically. When channels are direct accessed the channel is slow to lock up. AFT circuitry my need to be readjusted to compensate for component aging. This set needs 2 signals for the autoprogram to function. Correct AFT information to the tuning Micro and valid sync detection to the same Micro. It was discovered Sync detection was OK but the AFT was out of alignment.
Hitachi 31CX5B A3LXU child lock Hitachi 31CX5B. Unit is stuck in the child lock mode. cust cannot remember to correct code to unlock the code There is two methods to exit this area. Hitting 7777 then while in the child lock mode or shorting out pins 4 and 6 of with a fast diode (1SS270 or 1SS276 on the CPU while the set is on. The cathode connects to pin 6.
Hitachi 43FDX01 DP05 Chroma (none) Unit has no color in tuner, PIP, S-video, or component input modes. . Since component video is not processed by the standard NTSC processor, and is routed directly to the Flex Converter troubleshooting started at the output of the Flex converter. R-y, B-y, and Y signals were going to the Flex converter. The output of the Flex converter converts the NTSC video to 480P. R-y, B-y &Y was  OK at the output of Flex converter. Hitachi 50UX52B AP73 chroma (None) Hitachi 50UX52B. Unit has no chroma in the S-video mode. Chroma O.K. at IY01(11) but at pin IY01(45) is flat line. Coupling the chroma from pin 11 to 45 with a capacitor chroma is restored. Tech will need IY01.

Hitachi 32CX10 M3LXU2 CLOSED CAPTION 32CX10 Unit will operate fine but then the Closed caption will come on automatically. If the Closed caption is turned off, it will turn itself on again with any accessing the Closed caption function There is no history in the direct view televisions for this trouble. This is very common in the Projection receivers in the AP53 series line. The only this that might make sense here is the EPROM or the Microprocessor. Before making any hardware changes the suggestion to initialize the EPROM by placing a diode between R069(anode) and R004(cathode). They will connect to the side of the resistors away from the Microprocessor. This will initialize the EPROM. This process needs to be done even if the tech chooses to replace the Microprocessor

Hitachi 46UX20 AP53 Color (Intermittent) 46UX20B Unit has intermittent color and when the set is first turned on it has closed caption display on the screen Asked tech to check the condition of the color crystal and see if it loose…..It was….. Resoldered X501. Also initialize the EPROM to reset all parameters in the customer user guide and start from a base line operation with a clear memory.
Hitachi 46UX20 AP53 convergence Hitachi 46UX20B AP53 chassis. Unit has green centering convergence off center. Blue and Red are perfect. Picture is also very dark. But OSD is normal brightness. I had tech inspect the all the voltages to the CPU and the EPROM. All appears normal. I had tech initialize EPROM. It initialized but no beep was heard from the speaker. Pin 6 of IC501 is always low no mater where the volume is set. Unit has defective Microprocessor.
Hitachi 46UX21K AP53 convergence Hitachi 46UX21K. Unit looses convergence briefly then returns to normal operation Recommend tech replace the Digital convergence module. Tech will have to go through a complete convergence alignment. A special overlay is used on the screen to match up the geometric position of the green registration and the offset position of the red and blue.
Hitachi 46UX24B AP63 convergence Hitachi 46UX24B Hitachi unit has intermittent convergence misalignment. The main circuit has multiple cracks across the circuit board involving about 40 traces. It would not be practical to repair this many traces and maintain reliability JT05051 Unit has broken circuit board due to a mishandling of chassis. Chassis foot caught on the head of a locking screw. When the chassis was moved up it cracked the main board just in front of the heat sink of the convergence outputs. This chassis is also known for cracking the CBA in an area in front of the convergence output IC's. This is caused by lifting the chassis too high without clearing the front part of the chassis from a mounting screw. It will catch the lip of the chassis while pulling the chassis back. As soon as the chassis encounters the screw head in the bottom of cabinet, the tech has the tendency to lift up on the rear of the chassis causes the damage. HINT: As soon as the chassis encounters the screw, move chassis forward about 3/4 of an inch before lifting the chassis out.
Hitachi 46UX50B AP73 convergence Hitachi 46UX50B. This unit is way out of convergence. It appears that some one replaced the DCU module and never reset the convergence Tech will need to enter the Alignment parameters for the dynamic convergence alignment. It will require a screen overlay and the pocket adjustment guide. If it is only a convergence the set can be done in the field
Hitachi 50EX12B AP32 convergence  Unit has convergence completely out of adjustment. Tech needs to do the modification of IC1105 part # It appears the IC was attempted to be installed, and discovered Q1101 looks exactly like IC1105. What compounds the trouble is IC1105 has been mis-labeled on CBA as IC1101. (IC1101 is really IC1105) This is a misprint on the silk screen of the circuit board

Hitachi 53SDX01 DP06 Convergence The problem first appeared to be a simple convergence alignment.  After we looked closer at the unit we noticed a horizontal fold over on the right hand side noticeable on certain scenes. This showed the horizontal centering was off and needed to be adjusted. The other problem was the convergence was way out in the 1080imode which the customer was able to pull up with his cable box.  Many hours later we completed the full set-up.  The customer had unit serviced before and it was not converged in all modes.    Below is the procedure required to assure the unit is fully set- up with emphasis this time on horizontal centering. Main Picture horizontal centering MUST be adjusted with a HD GENERATOR  in the NTSC, 480i, 480p, 720p, and 1080i modes.  Centering adjustment in  one mode only will not take care of the other modes. After entering the main service menu(not convergence menu), horizontal centering CANNOT be adjusted by changing H-Posi, on this chassis. It must be adjusted by paging down to HD-Pos in the flex controller section of the service menu.  REMEMBER, it must be centered in all modes while the corresponding signal is applied with a HD generator.   After the proper centering is achieved, convergence MUST be done in all   modes with a HD generator, once again the alignment must be done with   the corresponding signal applied.   Note:  The above horizontal centering applies to the main picture.   There is also a horizontal centering for the internal crosshatch that must be done in all modes during convergence alignment which is accessed by pressing the "FREEZE" button on the remote.

CL434VP tech replace the convergence IC but it had no effect in the operation. The trouble is the DAC IK07 which handles the DC movement of the convergence registration area is malfunctioning. Suggest tech replace IK07
Hitachi 50EX11B AP32 CRT Leak Hitachi 50EX11BV no serial. Unit has leaking Green CRT. Has soaked the Main signal board… It is not recommended to try and clean a saturated CBA from a coolant spill. It will be necessary to replace the board. Part# 2890482 has been ordered from Hitachi tech support.
Hitachi 53UWX10B DP14 cycling high voltage Problem:  Unit comes on with full picture, starts to shrink vertically from the top and bottom and cycles high voltage on-off continuously.

Solution:  Troubleshot the pump-up diode D603 voltage on the anode measured 28vdc, cathode measured 10vdc.  Replaced D603 and solved problem. Diode was breaking down under load.

Hitachi 35CX30B A3LXU Dead Hitachi 35CX30B A3LXU chassis Unit will not turn on only the relay will click. R933 went up in smoke. Tech claims regulator is only producing 1 volt for it's output. The regulator is I901, a STR30130.  The fix was to replace R933 a 56 ohm 1/4 watt resistor,  C905 a 22mfd @160vdc electrolytic and I901 a STR30130.

Hitachi 35UX85B A6LXU Dead Unit is dead. Will not turn on Q711(C) has low resistance to ground 27K. C715 is leaky. Suggest Q711, C715, C714, & C716 be replaced. The capacitors are the retrace capacitors in the horizontal output circuit
Hitachi 35UX85B A6LXU dead Hitachi 35UX85B. Unit is dead. Short measured on collector of horizontal output transistor, however the transistor is not shorted. C715 shorted. Capacitor is shorted and should not be subbed. Value is 2200pf @ 2KV.
Hitachi 43FDX01 DP05 dead NO stand by power supply at the Sub-Power supply board. None of the LED's are lit. DP903 should be lit in the standby mode. Checking the regulator I901(4) finds the voltage was only 3 volts. This should be at least 10.7 volts. I901(3) is running at 165 vdc. This is normal. Isolating I901(4) still does not allow the solder pad to rise. It should rise to the value of the zener diode D904. That voltage is supposed to be 30 volts. Diode D904 check ok but was clipped out of circuit anyway. The voltage shot up to 44 vdc. It appears the Zener Diode D904 was avalanching at the wrong voltage. Replacing it corrected the trouble. Part# 2334304M

Hitachi 60UX54 AP73 dead 60UX54B originally E991 was open. Unit still going into a over current or over voltage condition. Q614 is being triggered by a high coming from the anode or D932. Replacing E994 cured the symptom
Hit 43FDX01B DP05 Dead Unit has a shorted IP01 regulator in the deflection power supply and a blown fuse EP91. Checking the secondaries of the power supply did not find anything shorted or open Tech replaced IP01 and the fuse and it instantly shorted. Still nothing check defective in the secondary or primary. Figuring it was and infant mortality of the IC another was installed and it too instantly shorted. Futher checking in the primary we found an open IP04 photo coupler and leaky D05 a 12 volt zener in the OCP circuit of IP01.
Hitachi 53FDX10b DP14 Green missing No green. Unit has virtually no green cathode drive to the CRT. Red and Blue are fine. Checking the Green drive at the connector PZC(3) we found the voltage matched the red and blue drive signals on PZC(1 & 5). Cathode of the Green CRT was sitting at 200 vdc. Yet the junction of Q854(E) & Q855(E) was at 168 vdc. The set had an open R865 a resistor in series for the green CRT cathode. Note: Resistor looked perfect. No evidence of burn. Just open Resistor was a 100 1/2 watt resistor.

Hitachi 53UDX10BA DP15 High voltage Shut  down When the power button is pushed the set will turn on but never get high voltage. It will however get Horizontal sweep when scopting Q777(C ). But the never is a signal to the QH01, the high voltage output. Further checking the deflection the tech found the vertical deflection yoke and measured the high side of the vertical drive signal to the deflection yoke. Tech found the ramp was  flattened on the top and bottom and reduced in Peak to peak from the typically 60 volts pp to less than 24 volts PP. After checking around I601 the Vertical output, and insuring the B+'s were normal found the ramp generator from IC601(7) looked very distorted with an almost no presence ramp on it.  C603 is the capacitor needed to develop the ramp used for the  vertical deflection. This capacitor was apparently leaky causing the vertical sweep to be corrupted plus causing the high voltage shutdown to occur. The was because the was insufficient vertical pulse at I601(11) the vertical pulse detector QN05 turned on, This allowed QN05(C ) to rise allowing CNo3 to charge and stop high voltage.

Hitachi 32UX51B M7LXU Horizontal sync Hitachi 32UX51B V7K07984. Unit has intermittent loss of horizontal sync and luminance lasting only 1 second then returns to normal. Set will run for 10 to 30 minutes perfectly Unit looses video at pin 47 of I201. Wiley @Hitachi says to initialize the EPROM but no change in operation. Tech needs to verify RP31 must be 6.8 ohm resistor. If it is a 120 ohm resistor add a 150 ohm 1/16 watt resistor between LP12 and CP39 positive side.

Hitachi 43FDX01 DP05 Luminance (none) Unit has intermittent luminance. Pressing on the signal board brings luminance back. This problem shows up in the Tuner, composite video, and Component modes. Tracing the Luminance path finds that luminance exhibits at the output of the combfilter all the way to I201(37), also at I205(16) but we lost it at Q225(E). Q225 is located on main signal board. It is an emitter follower. The Problem was Q225(C) was not soldered.
Hitachi 43FDX01 DP05 Luminance (none) Unit has no luminance. This problem shows up in the Tuner, composite video, but not in the Component in modes. Tracing the Luminance path finds that luminance does not exhibits at the output of I205(16) but is present in the component mode. Tracing backwards to I201(37) finds the pin loose. Resoldering I201 corrected the problem
Hitachi 50UX15X AP33 Luminance (weak) 50UX15K. Vertical sync is very unstable. Also raster is darker than it should be. On screen display is normal as with the PIP too. Bypassing the video in to the "Y" out of the 3 line comb filter to check out the combfilter operation. We had a normal picture with strong video and sync. All b+ 's normal to the comb filter. Unit has defective comb filter. ESR all the electrolytics and replace all high ESR capacitors corrected the problem.
Hitachi 46UX50B AP73 magic focus TV intermittently executes magic focus rolling picture. Previous tech ordered the DCU module and tried to re-converge unit. Unit does not have magic focus function Defective diode in key scan circuit for Magic focus function. DM05 leaky. Should be 15 volt zener. Causing the Magic Focus line to be pulled down to under 2 volts.

Hitachi 60SX54 AP73 magic focus 60SX54B Unit will not initialize the sensors using the customers remote Customers remote is a CLU612MP. What is used in the training book is a CLU951MP. The buttons do not match up to the buttons on the customers remote. To initialize the sensors after writing to ROM the tech must press the "move" then "pip channel" This will cause several different arrays of colored rectangles to flash on the screen and the words "count down" will appear. After a few minutes the screen will go blank then go to green dots when means the initialization was successful. then finish up by hitting the "Magic focus" button to complete the convergence process.
Hitachi 43FDX01 DP05 Missing 1 color This tip could happen foe any color. This tip is written based on a missing red drive. I've included the diodes for the other colors in the event your TV is missing any of the colors. Missing Red. No red from tuner, composite video, or component video inputs. Also missing red from OSD menu.. Tune TV to a vacant channel. (All snow) • Remove the front cover and locate the Blue CRT socket and connector PAC. • Measure connector PAC (1, 3 & 5). In a working set these measure approx 3.2 volts. If one of these is too low suspect one or more of the following zenor diodes on the CRT boards, or 2H RGB module. In normal operation these zenors act as spike protection and are benign when no spikes are present. It has been discovered one or more of these become leaky and swamp one of the RGB drive signals. If you suspect one that is shorted or leaky, clip it out and see if the color returns.Don’t bother to test it in the diode check mode. It will probably check O.K. It should also be mentioned the CRT boards are heavily shielded. The following is a listing of the zenor diodes to check and which boards they are located on. COLOR 2H RGB BOARD CRT SOCKET RED DX11 D801 GREEN DX12 D851 BLUE DX13 D8A1 Two diodes protect each color. For example DX11 is in parallel with D801 for the RED path. Attached are schematics that illustrate the electrical locations of these zenors. All of these Zenors are 12-volt 400ma glass diodes. Part # 2331849M
Hitachi 32UX51B M7LXU OSD 32UX51B serial V7K808240 Menu flickers on the screen But very inconsistent. Now the menu is completely gone. An inspection of the main board uncovered a green wire about 3 inches long.. One end of it was touching R0H2. This green wire is a jumper that is connected to points K00A and K00A. (These are the same alpha/numeric location.) Apparently when the insulation was stripped from the wire too much wire was exposed and it touched the leg of resistor R0H2. Resoldering the K00A pad and pushing the excess wire through the board hole and trimming off the excess corrected the trouble.

Hitachi 50UX22 AP52 OSD 50UX22B. Unit has graphic ASCII characters on the screen that will go away if the Closes Caption is turned off. These characters will come back again after a commercial intermission or if the station changes from network feed to local feed the Closed caption will turn on automatically. Suggest the tech replace the EPROM and Microprocessor with KIT X480170 reference bulletin # PTV96-2 related to the newly programmed Microprocessor that disables the Auto caption function and causing the CC display to turn on with XDS data instead of CC Data.
Hitachi 50UX26B AP63 OSD 50UX26B AP-63. Unit getting the random characters in the upper left corner of screen Unit must be set in the CC1 mode only. CC1 is the only data channel used for closed caption. A conservative approach to remedy is to leave the set in the CC1 mode. Aggressive approach is to replace the CPU and EPROM part # CP02793 & H030062. These devices are part of an upgrade to change the system from auto caption to true closed caption system.

Hitachi 50UX54B AP73 OSD 50UX54B. Unit looses raster and blinks on an off. Still has sound and high voltage. Unit must have power removed and restored in order for the picture to start up again and run normally. As long as all other counter measures are done, it is suggested that the tech replace I004 EPROM and initialize the EPROM by using a 1SS270, or 1N914 diode with anode to pin I001(32) and cathode to pin I001( 29). Hitachi 53UWX10B. DP17 OSD The picture is going black intermittently and the word STOP is coming up on the screen in the middle. then it will go away and the picture will come back. This temporary "black out" with the "STOP" on the center is
NORMAL. 
The reason is happening is because the CRTs are still in the process of settling or commonly know as burning in process.1) Previously, Hitachi PTVs used to actually show a flicker on the screen every time this happen.  Now, we have added a SPOT circuit which senses any and all CRTs discharges and immediately MUTES the picture as a SAFETY measure.  An to prevent this discharge from actually burning a spot on any CRT. 2)    This MUTING of the video will ALSO mute the sound as you can see in our Training Package when we address the Video Muting circuit.  On some units you will notice the words "STOP" on the screen. But on latest production, unit will just "black out" with out the words "STOP" on the screen....this is also NORMAL.Please explain to the customers that this "blacking out" which some of them will refer as to: 1)    Shutting off 2)    Shutting Down 3)    Turning Off Etc, Etc,.   The key to find out if this is a normal CRTs settling case, is to ask if the unit recover by itself....In all cases you will find out the unit does it for a second or two then it goes right back to normal picture.

Hitachi 60UX55 AP73 OSD 60UX55B. Periodically this unit will have the OSD for channel and clock display show on screen. Hitachi 43FDX01 DP05 Picture has Lines Unit has thin horizontal lines in picture for 15 to 20 minutes after the set turned on. After 20 minutes the lines clear up and the set will play all day long without a problem. While the set is having the symptom I had the tech pull on the anode lead from the CRT. When slightly tugging on the anode lead for the blue CRT the horizontal lines got worse. Apparently the Anode lead wire was not fully inserted in the anode cup. Because of all the silicone keeping the cup glued to the CRT it was impossible to get the cup off in one piece. It was decided to get the CRT because it was under warranty. After changing the blue CRT corrected the trouble.
Hitachi 46UX20 AP53 Pincushion (Hour glass) Hitachi 46UX20Bset displays a picture that has a sever N/S pincushion and insufficient horizontal width. This chassis is also known for cracking the CBA in an area in front of the convergence output IC's. This is caused by lifting the chassis too high without clearing the front part of the chassis from a mounting screw. It will catch the lip of the chassis while pulling the chassis back. As soon as the chassis encounters the screw head in the bottom of cabinet, the tech has the tendency to lift up on the rear of the chassis causes the damage. HINT: As soon as the chassis encounters the screw, move chassis forward about 3/4 of an inch before lifting the chassis out.
Hitachi 43FDX01B DP05 PIP noise PIP picture has sever horizontal lines in the video window. This symptom exists on composite, Tuner, and S-video inputs. Main video is fine. When monitoring the Sub Luminance input (SYIN) to the Flex converter on connector PFC1(17) the luminance was perfect. But the Y output PFC2(16) had noise in the PIP area of the luminance signal.The Flex converter is responsible for inserting the Picture in picture and converting the NTSC video to 480progressive. The Flex converter was replace and the PIP video cleared up. Part # CS0091
Hitachi 46EX2 AP22 PIP Poor Hitachi 46EX2B. Unit has poor PIP video. There is a kit of 21 surface mounted components that need replacement. These components are difficult to replace in the field due to the circuit board density, and length of time necessary to replace these 21 surf PTS has these modules available for exchange. We must send the defective module to them and they will send us a reconditioned module in return.
Hitachi 50EX10B AP32 poor contrast Hitachi 50EX10E Unit has poor contrast on PIP and main. ABL line only measures 2 volts not the 9 volts it supposed to have at the high side of C745 and C795 off of the flyback transformer. These capacitors were leaky and holding the ABL voltage down.

Hitachi 50UX27B AP63 Power supply stays on Hit 50UX27. AP63. Unit appears to turn off but it only mutes sound and picture but unit still has high voltage. Tech had replaced several other components in the system control circuitry. We found the relay driver would not come far enough out of saturation to allow the on/off relay to unlatch. Tech needs to replace on/off driver transistor.
Hitachi 31CX4B A3LXU Raster (missing) Hitachi 31CX4B Unit went out after a lightening storm. Unit had audio but no raster but OSD was O.K. Tracing video from its source to I302's inputs found that pin 1 had no output to the video input of the comb filter. By-passing I302 with a jumper from pin 1 to 4(tuner input) restored normal video. Tech needs to replace IC I302. IC302 corrected fault
Hitachi 43FDX01B DP05 Raster (missing) Unit will run for a few minutes then the raster fill fade away. Closer look finds the Filaments of each CRT glows dimmer and dimmer. The filament voltage comes from the deflection power supply through diode DP09 and regulator IP02. While monitoring the voltage at DP09 we found the voltage to start at 6.9 and fall to 2.2 over a period of 1 minute. However the rest of the voltages from the secondary of this transformer are normal. Unit has defective DP09. Part # 2337952S.
Hitachi 60FX32B AP63 Raster (missing) Unit will turn on . All LEDS are lit but nothing happens on the screen. All the LED's indicate is all the major power supplies are running. They do not indicate the condition of 3 post regulators I5A4, 5A2, & 5A3. Unit had poor soldering on I5A3. 9 volt regulator.
Hitachi 50UX27K AP63 Raster (missing) Hitachi 50UX27K Unit has no raster and no sound. High voltage was present as well as fliament voltage. No video or sound or OSD. Previous tech went out and ordered the main signal module for this unit and a second tech went out to install it. Prior to installation second tech discovered heat sinks were cold for I 503, Tech check the condition of I503 the 9 volt regulator IC. Regulator had ring fractures around pins of I503. Re-flowing solder connection corrected the symptom.
Hitachi 65SWX20B DP27 Raster (missing) No raster symptom. Has sound, OSD, and highvoltage, but no raster or PIP. When using a 1080i input to the set the television operates correctly. 1080i bypass' the flexconferter. Checked the B+ at flexconverter found that we were missing the 5 volts to PFC1(22).  L306 was open It is a 100 micro henry choke. Replacement corrected the symptom. Thanks To Bert Brechler (Las Vegas).
Hitachi 43FDX01b DP05 Raster (None) Sound (None) Intermittent PROBLEM:  Intermittent loss of both audio and video as well as OSD.  High voltage is present, unit was not in v-mute condition. TROUBLESHOOTING:  Flexing the main chassis caused the problem to occur.  It was found that the switched 5volts was dropping out because of an invisible crack between R024 and pin 2 of the 5volt switching regulator I010.  This IC is a DC to DC converter and pin 2 is the on/off controller. Soldering R024 and soldering a jumper wire from the resistor to pin 2 of I010 fixed the problem.
Hit 50UX12 AP32 raster bright Unit goes to a bright screen with retrace lines then shuts down. Measuring the 200 vdc source fines it is OK but the cathode of each CRT are low. Only about 23 volts. When checking the Y1 connector that connects the signal board to the CRT modules we found the -Y voltage running in excess of 8 volts when it should be approx 3.7 volts. Checking transistor that supplies the luminance bias found it leaky. Q3521 a 2SC1741S was replaced and the set was returned to normal operation.
Hitachi 53FDX01 DP05 raster Dark Unit has very dark raster in all inputs  Also OSD is also dark. Sound is normal. Further checking in the video drive and V-mute circuits find that the set has normal video drive at the RGB outputs of I501. G2 at all 3 CRTs are running at 368 vdc. But the filament supply at EBG2(4) was only 2 volts. Further investigati0on led the tech to the deflection power supply secondary at IP02(1) was only 2 volts but DP09(K) was 8.5 vdc. It was found the RP41 had changed value from 1.5 ohms to 23 ohms. Tech replaced resistor with the 1.5 ohm @ 2 watt and the TV operated correctly.

Hitachi 50UX23B AP53 Raster Sound missing Unit has no raster or sound. At times there is a thump on the speakers at turn on and turn off. All the LEDs are running and the set has high voltage. After the set has been on for several minutes I asked the tech check the heatsinks of all the regulators on the on the signal board These were I502, I503, & I504 One heatsink in particular was cold I503 the 9 volt regulator. Measuring the input we found it to be 14.2 volts but he output was only 5.6 volts and dropping. Applying our own external 9 volts the set operated correctly. Replacing the device corrected the symptom. Part # 2004665
Hitachi 50UX54B AP73 remote Unit will not operate with remote control. Unit operates fine with the front panel keyboard. Tech replaced the Remote, IR. receiver, EPROM and the microprocessor. None of which have corrected the fault. Tech there was data out of this remote control using the I.R. sensitive business card. Tech believed that this test confirmed proper operation of the remote control. The customer is using rechargeable batteries which are not recommended. The Nickel Cadmium batteries produce only 1.2 volts when fully charged then drop to 1.1 after a week of shelf life. On earlier research I discovered this remote uses 32 bit pulses to create 1 single command. With weak batteries this remote will send out codes but not the entire 32 bit code. The remote requires a minimum of 1.5 volts per battery to function properly. The unit had defective batteries.
Hitachi 60FX13B AP63 remote 60SX13K Remote has poor sensitivity when used on TV. RCA generic has better range 15 ft but Hitachi only has 5 to 10 foot range. Unit has defective I receiver
Hitachi 60FX13B AP63 remote The Hitachi remote will not operate on this television. However it will run the JVC VCR and Scientific Atlanta CATV box. Need to verify if we have the correct remote. The remote has been replaced 3 times, but with the same remote. CLU952. Problem was caused by batteries. Customer was using rechargeable batteries. Tech made the mistake of not checking the condition of the batteries. He only used the credit card type infrared indicators. When looking at the data received by the Remote receiver and pressing any buttons on the remote I found the data pulse train decayed in amplitude before the entire pulse was sent. In other words the pulse should be about 32 bits long. With the defective batteries the pulse length varied from 10 ~ 20 bits. Replacing the batteries with alkaline fixed the trouble. 
Hitachi 50UX22B AP53 Remote-inoperative 50UX22B Unit will not turn on with the remote but will turn off with the front panel controls. Tech replaced the remote CPU and EPROM with no change in the effect. Asked tech to initialize the EPROM and reset everything. Problem still exists. With an oscilloscope it was detected the PP level of the signal out of the IR receiver was marginal. Only 200 mv whereas it should be 5 volts peak to peak. Unit had defective IR receiver.

Pin# CP07281I generic TA1316AN corrected the trouble.

Green picture with retrace lines.  Decreasing the green G2 voltage to minimun mimumized the retrace but no green video was present.  Barely increasing the green G2 caused retrace lines to reappear.
Swapped G2 leads at the screen/focus block to eliminate the block. Swapped the moved the blue crt card over to the green crt to determine the problem was on the green crt board. Found transistor Q854 shorted on the green crt board.  Part number:  2312773F

Hitachi 50UX23B AP53 screen discoloration 50UX23K. Unit has a dark smear between the two lenticular and fresnel lens. The dark patches seem to become larger over a period of time and follow the path of the Fresnel lens. This is an unusual symptom which several tech have seen several screens developing this sort of problem. It is unknown what is causing this phenomena. What ever it is it is very difficult to clean. So far all attempts to clean this cause the compound to smear. It is a waxy compound.
Hitachi 53UDX10BA DP17 Screen glare The problem can be seen on this 16x9 television while watching a 4x3 broadcast, in other words the letter box mode. The problem can also be seen when the background is blanked or very dark scenes. If you should experience this problem remove the middle magic focus sensor housing and spray paint it a flat black (Not Glossy). The light from the CRTs actually reflects from the sensor and causes a glare that lands on the screen. You can also order a new housing and the new one should be a flat black. I've seen this 4 times in the past two months.
Hitachi 27CX5 A3LXU Shutdown 27CX5 Unit goes into shut down after a few minutes of operation. Unit has to have the power removed and restored to operate it again. A .47 mfd capacitor need to be installed across resistor in the shut down latch circuit.
Hitachi 27CX6B M3LXU Shutdown Hitachi 27CX6B. Unit shuts off 30 seconds after the set is turned on. I instructed tech to check to see if F601 is open. It was. Replace the vertical output , charge pump and boost diode.
Hitachi 31CX5B A3LXU Shutdown Hitachi 31CX5B Unit shuts down and has to have the power removed from the set then restored. After a hard reset the set will be restored to normal operation. C716 C623, No epoxy Q901 Q904. (be sure transistors are installed correctly) Factory installed some of these sets backwards. After time the transistors begin to fail and cause a failure in I901.
Hitachi 31UX5B A3LXU Shutdown Hitachi 31UX5B Unit has intermittent symptom of loosing full horizontal and vertical sweep. This symptom shows up once or twice a day. The trouble was simulated by disabling the I901 regulator. After the regulator was disconnected the set ran on the shunt resistor with reduced B+. It exhibited the identical symptom the customer had complained about. Customer confirmed this symptom which allowed us to come to the conclusion that I901 was the fault.
Hitachi 35CX7B A3LXU2 Shutdown Hitachi 35CX7B. Unit is shutting down. Power supply running at 156 volts R933 a 56 ohm resistor was burned and open. Recommend tech replace C905 and R933. In addition to I901 regulator.
Hitachi 35UX70B A4LXU Shutdown Hitachi 35UX7B Unit shuts down after 1.5 hours, and will not turn on. Unit must be unplugged to reset the system control There has been reported a problem with the following components. I901 T901, D744, D914, C716, and C914. These components should be replaced.

Hitachi 43FDX01 DP05 Shutdown Unit has Standby supply voltages but when the TV is turned on, both green leds illuminate on the Sub-Power supply board. But none of the LEDs light up on the main circuit board. Closer inspection finds Q777 is shorted. After replacing Q777, it shorted out again in just a few minutes. It was reported that a snap was heard just before it went dead. We replaced the transistor again and took a high voltage probe and slid the tip of the probe down all the HV leads,. We were able to draw an arc to the tip of the HV probe if we circled the anode lead. Apparently the  Green CRT's anode cup on the tube had a pin hole allowing High voltage to arc to the deflection yoke. Once we removed the probe from that area it arced again to the yoke. The tech saw the arc this time. After changing the Green CRT, and Q777 The set worked fine.
Hitachi 43FDX01B DP05 Shutdown Unit will turn on but go into shutdown immediately. High voltage is attempting to come up but shuts down before it can teach maximum potential. Unit has Horizontal and vertical sweep if measured at deflection yoke wires. Tracing the shut down circuitry we narrowed the problem to the vertical detector we found the QN04(C ) was going high causing the shutdown of the HV drive to QH01. QN04(E & B) were the same potential 11.1 volts. With this condition the Collector should have been  "0" volts not 8 volts. Unit had defective QN04 2SA673

Hitachi 50FX30B AP62 Shutdown Unit has intermittent shutdown. Unit will play flawlessly then just shutdown. The red Led on power supply still remains lit. Stand by supply is O.K. Also when channel guide is invoked the OSD is unstable and randomly positioned across the screen It was determined that all B+ necessary at the SYSCON is normal. Unit had a shorted D716 and Q706.

But checking on the opposite end of the cable, the second the tech touched the pin the set came on and operated correctly. Pin 1 & 2 on the power/ Def board were not making good contact.

Hitachi 53UWX10B. DP17 Shutdown Here is a new tip for the Hitachi 53UWX10B and its clones. The symptom may be instant shutdown or intermittent shutdown. The problem may be a cracked circuit foil in the Deflection power supply between IP01 pin 1 and RP09. This is a very thin foil that runs next to the heatsink tab, so pressure on the sink may cause board to flex. We have had three cases of these. Thank to Rich Skib
Hitachi 50FX18B AP62 Shutdown Unit shuts down after 30 to 35 minutes. Needs to be shut off then turned back on again. All preliminary tests and observations do not give any clues. Disconnecting all 3 CRT sockets and removing SCR Q903 in the power supply allows the set to operate indefinitely. Monitoring the where the gate connected we found 8.5 volts and climbing. Tracing back through the shut down diodes we came to a diode D930 where the anode was in excess of 14 volts. This diode couples the over voltage and over current  sensors to the gate of Q903.. Tracing the source of the voltage we found Q935( C) with over 80 volts on it. Freezing the transistor caused the collector to drop to under 3 volts. Q935 a 2SA778 was leaky. Replacing this device corrected the condition
Hitachi 32DX22 M1CLXU Shutdown Unit will turn on but shutdown immediately after turnning on. When checking the "Run" 26 volts source at D721(A) we found the voltage missing. But D721(K) had 26 volts on it at the initial turn on but quickly decayed. It was also determined that the High voltage came up and the pluses appeared normal at the collector of the horizontal output transistor. Problem was the current limitter resistor at the 26 volts scan source from flyback. see notes 5-30-2002 JES
Hitachi 46UX7B AP13 Shutdown WHITE CLIPPING" On dark scenes set works fine but if any white or near white video these areas wash out. If a gray scale chart, or color bars pattern, (with chroma turned off) were displayed,  the brighter vertical bars were flat top or clipped.
Luminance ok at the input of IC 501 but all outputs on R-y, B-y, and G-y are badly clipped. Replace IC-501 HA11511CNT

DP20 Shutdown The problem seems to be No vertical sweep when checking if vertical drive exhists across the vertical yoke windings. This is caused by a bad Vertical Output IC.  Also the unit may shut down. Please add a second capacitor in parallel with C609. Value is 0.068 mf 100 V Mylar capacitor. It should be available locally if your techs don't already have it in their truck stock. Hitachi Part No 0279692R
Hitachi 60UX54 AP73 Sound 60UX54K. No surround, Hall, or matrix XS01 8 MHz crystal was never soldered in. It was not pushed completely through the board
Hitachi 43FDX01b DP05 Sound (None) Raster (None)  Intermittent PROBLEM:  Intermittent loss of both audio and video as well as OSD.  High voltage is present, unit was not in v-mute condition. TROUBLESHOOTING:  Flexing the main chassis caused the problem to occur.  It was found that the switched 5volts was dropping out because of an invisible crack between R024 and pin 2 of the 5volt switching regulator I010.  This IC is a DC to DC converter and pin 2 is the on/off controller. Soldering R024 and soldering a jumper wire from the resistor to pin 2 of I010 fixed the problem.

Hitachi 46UX12B AP32 sync Hitachi 46UX12B AP 32 chassis Unit has unstable horizontal and vertical sync. When looking at the composite video at the input of the comb filter the video looks great, but looking at the Luminance out of the comb filter the signal barely has sync with video clipped. Unit has a 2375401 (the comb filter). It is replaceable module for this unit.
Hitachi 46UX20 AP53 sync Hitachi 46UX20B Unit has no sync and dark picture. The comb filter is defective. Bypassing the comb filter with jumpers from the Video in to the luminance out corrected the picture. Module must be repaired. Need to check the surface mounted capacitors in the  comb filter assembly with an ESR meter.

Bypass the Comb filter by shorting 4 & 11 with a 10 mfd capacitor of the M301 connector. Normal operation of the video returns. Sync improves. Unit may need the comb filter board. Sending another repaired board through the warehouse to tech on 3-4-99 The repaired board was sent and received on Friday 3-5-99. Everything worked with the repaired board,. Board checked out with a ESR capacitor meter. Testing all electrolytic in the board. Found 6 that were open or near open. Tech sending back the defective board for repair.

Hitachi 50UX22 AP53 sync Hitachi 50UX22B AP53P chassis. Pix getting scrambled. Also goes bright red with retrace lines then shut down. Problem for scrambled pix is in the Comb filter. Bypassing the comb filter stops the scrambled pix. But when tech taps on the neck of the tube the set will go to a bright red screen with retrace lines. Unit will need the tube. The Comb filter module will need to be sent to PTS for rebuilding. In order to run set Jumper PCX( 7 to 1) & (5 to 1)
Hitachi 50UX27 AP63 System control Hitachi 50UX27 When channels are changes the screen goes blank, the channel finally displays it self after 5 seconds. This happens on bout channel scan and direct access Initialize the EPROM and connect additional grounds to the CRT sockets to chassis ground.
Hitachi 50UX22 AP62 system control Hitachi 50UX22 Unit will not select the video input mode When video 1 or 2 selected the system will say "CHILD Lock" If QuickLock is activated it will lockout all video outputs and channel and channel 3 &4. Get into the custom menu and select quick lock. Enter "0 0 0 0" as the 4 digit pass code and turn off the parental lock feature
Hitachi 50UX22 AP62 system control Unit is stuck in the Child Lock mode. Unit will turn on and display "Child Lock" on the screen. No sound, No other Function but on or off. Checking around the data and clock line finds that the clock line was pulled to ground. The easiest place to gain access to the clock and data line was to go to IY501(18 & 19). Floating these pins on IY501 removed the "Child Lock"  feature. We still had no raster or sound but all the OSD elements appeared. IY501 was replaced and all worked correctly. The normal state on these two pins is 5 volts measured with a meter, or 5 volts peak to peak with an oscilloscope
Hitachi 60SX12B AP62 system control Hitachi 60SX12B. Unit has lost several functions and features that were normally accessed through the remote control. PIP, Channel recall, volume down, are a few of the missing adjustments. Instruct tech to reset EPROM by shorting out two pins on connector PI-1 near I.F. shield. This will initialize the EPROM and restore normal operation.
Hitachi 27AX4B A3LXU Tuning (None) 27AX4B Unit has only white noise or snow on the screen . The BT tuning voltage is at 1.4 volts I had tech check the BT tuning voltage to this unit. It never raised from 1.4 volts. Floating the tuner BT did not increase the voltage. But removing the zenor diode D001 allowed the voltage to rise to 40 volts. Tech did not have a replacement Zener diode so we made one from and 18 and a 15 volt zenor diode in series.
Hitachi 32CX10B A3LXU3 Turn on (Intermittent) Hitachi 32CX10B. A3LXU2 chassis. When the unit is turned off after being on for several hours the set will not turn back on. Set not getting the start up voltage because of a defective C914. This capacitor is the main start up capacitor and it establishes the length of time the set needs to start up. If that time becomes too short because the value of the capacitor decreases, so will the start up period until the unit will no longer start up.
Hitachi 32CX12B A3LXU4 Turn on (Intermittent) Hitachi 32CX12B Unit will run fine but when it is shut off it will not turn back on again unless the power is removed and reapplied again It looks like D90C is being turned on. This device is an SCR. It monitors the B+ from the audio power supply. The components that have a history of failure in this chassis are C915, D915, D916, C725. It is suggested to remove the gating voltage from this

Hitachi 50UX15X AP33 Verrtical Sync (Weak) 50UX15K. Vertical roll and dark picture. On screen display is normal . PIP OK Bypassing the video in to the "Y" out of the 3 line comb filter to check out the combfilter operation. We had a normal picture with strong video and sync. All b+ 's normal to the comb filter. Unit has defective comb filter.
Hitachi 57UWX20B DP23 Vertical ertical foldover on the bottom or pulling up from the bottom of the screen The fix is to add capacitance in parallel to C609. Adding a .068 MFD @100vdc corrects the problem. There will be a factory bulletin non this by late 2002.

Hitachi 53UWX10B DP14 Vertical Problem:  Unit comes on with full picture, starts to shrink vertically from the top and bottom and cycles high voltage on-off continuously.

Solution:  Troubleshot the pump-up diode D603 voltage on the anode measured 28vdc, cathode measured 10vdc.  Replaced D603 and solved problem. Diode was breaking down under load.
Hitachi 50UX52B AP73 Vertical banding Hitachi 50UX52B. It has several horizontal lines across the screen that resemble "Banding" ( A multiple expansion and compression of vertical sweep from top to bottom). This symptom has been seen before and caused by the Jungle chip I501.
Hitachi 32CX12B A3LXU4 Vertical line (Green) 32CX12B Green vertical line in picture with video at 10 ire. Problem resembles a problem in the delay circuitry of the combfilter. Unit has defective combfilter.
Hitachi 32CB12 A3LXU4 Vertical Transpartent Bar 32CB12B Hitachi Light vertical bar through the picture center of picture on Dark scenes or video pattern around 7.5 to 10 IRE. The symptom was apparent in the video input as well as tuner modes. The bar resembles the ghosting effect that might be seen when on CATV or antenna when there is multipath of the received signal. Need to look at the comb filter output with an oscilloscope to see if a aberration exists on each horizontal line about 30 microseconds (approximately 1/2 way through the horizontal line)…….Unit had bad comb filter.

Hitachi 27CX1 M3LXU Video None 27CX1 Unit has no snow, or sound. . Unit will not operate in the Video input mode. Tech replace the tuner and the Jungle IC with no change in the symptom. Checking the tuner for data and clock we find both signals and the are 5 volt peak to peak. Strange this though is the tuner has no activity on the IF out. We are unable to brute force an I.F. signal through the S.A.W. filter or to the IF input of the IC. No background noise at all on the screen or at the detector out of the jungle IC. All B+'s are normal to the jungle IC. Too many things are not working in this unit It appears that we must have a system control problem because we should be able to force a video signal through or through the combfilter. Nothing functions. Suggest the tech consider replacing the EPROM and/or the Microprocessor. The EPROM was bad

Verify the 5 volt supply for the combfilter. It is 0 volts. There isn't a 7 volt source to the regulators. The power supply has a open in the 7 volt supply source to I502. Unit fixed by reinserting cable SD0

Hitachi 43FDX01B DP05 video smeared When watching the main picture the video or luminance part of the picture has a horizontal smear. Appears in all inputs, but not on any OSD segments. When checking the Luminance from the Flex converter PSZ2(15) all was well the way to IX01(53). But the RGB output had long slews on the desending portion of the luminance waveform. Best observed using a staiur step waveform. Unit had a defective IX01 part# TA1298AN
