MGA 82 MGA VS5005 V10 Dead VS5005. Unit has not power from supply. Set will not power up. The 130 volt line has a complete short circuit. Disconnecting from supply will allow supply to run all the secondary voltages normally. Tech had a shorted H.Out Xistor, caused by broken bias resistor in the base of the horizontal output. Replacing the Horizontal output and the bias resistor corrected the symptom.
MGA 83 MGA CS2771   Dead MGA CS2771R . This TV will not run. Power supply is damaged. Field tech replaced the same parts 3 times and each time it blows out the devices he just changed. This tech received this unit with a lot of hidden damage components. I had tech disconnect all secondary loads from power supply after replacing all the shorted components in the primary. Jumping the on/off relay the set was powered up with an variac at 10 volts AC Power supply oscillation began normal operation. But at 20 Volts A.C input the power supply B+ secondary, for the 140 volts, was already at 90 vdc. At 30 volts the B+ supply was running at 140 volts. Tech needs to replace C914, & C903 in power supply. After replacing the electrolytic in the primary side of the power supply Unit ran normally.

MGA 193 MGA VS50VA1 V12 Horizontal sync MGA VS50VA1. Unit has unstable horizontal sync in the main pix. Also the Raster is darker than normal and has tendency to have vertical jitters. Problem located in the PIP module. Note: This module is used in several models from projection to direct view televisions. Tech needs to bypass the PIP module. The Horizontal sync is stripped from the composite video shortly before the PIP module handles the luminance signal. By jumping 5 to 11 & 7 to 9 of the VP connector the PIP board can eliminated. The picture cleared up after this. The components that cause a corruption in the Luminance signal are C7001 and C7036. These are surface mounted capacitors rated at 4.7 mfd @ 16 vdc. These capacitors were bad in this unit. Careful replacement with small radial capacitors corrected the problem. (However not recommended) The right capacitors are available from MCM as a KIT. It is a good idea to ESR all the electrolytics in this module. My experience has been that the bad capacitors are found outside the shielded compartment.
MGA 194 MGA CK3530   interference CK3530. Unit has interference on screen on channels 58, 59. Other channels show poor quality of reception. The lines of interference appear as diagonal lines of equal distance migrating from the lower left to upper right of screen. The description of this interference is classic example of FM interference. This is mostly caused by an inoperative FM filter in set or the set never had one to begin with. Suggested tech try a bullet FM filter to eliminate symptom. Bullet filter correct the symptom. Available from MCM. 
MGA 195 MGA CS26EX1   Keyboard MGA CS26EX1 Cannot get keyboard to function. Unit stuck in the hotel mode. Instruct tech to access the menu function and invoke 008 "enter" Turn off the Hotel mode operation using the hand unit.
MGA 196 MGA CK35MX2 JU-0 luminance missing CK35MX2. Unit does not have proper luminance or PIP. When touching PIP module the video comes and goes. Also looses vertical sync. Tech may need to replace the PIP module when the new stock number. (UPDATE: this module is no longer available). This module is not difficult to repair. It does contain several surface mounted electrolytics and is also a dual trace board. Several of these electrolytics are known to leak. The fluid from the capacitors is corrosive and eats up the traces and plate-thru holes in the circuit board.. This unit has a defective C7001 and a plate-through-hole that was damaged by the fluid. Tech had to passed a very small diameter wire (32ga) through the plate-thru hole and solder it to both sides to complete connection between the top and bottom of board. Care must be done to remove these electrolytics. A technique that works well for me is to use solder flux either paste or liquid, a soldering iron at 600 degrees tip temperature, and a conical tip. Saturate the legs of the capacitor with flux and alternate the melting of the solder on each leg. Do this quickly so the solder remains semi fluid. Then with a single tap of the tip of the iron, knock the capacitor over in the direction of one of the solder lands. This technique has worked 100% of the time for me. Never had a torn trace. Avoid solder wick with this board. Install the new capacitors and clean the board with flux remover.

MGA 274 MGA CK3531   Raster missing MGA CK3531. No raster, no sound, no OSD.  After confirming the main power supply was working we found the 2 post regulators on the 16 vdc supply were not warm. The supply voltage was intermittent to the post regulators. It was caused by loose solder connections from the current limited resistors on the input side. R8A1 and R8A3 were poorly soldered and the traces burned because of the IR drop.
MGA 275 MGA VS5007 V11 shut down Customer complaint is shut down at turn on. Suggest the tech checked C728 a (100mfd@16v on signal board). The capacitor had a high ESR of over 1k. The tech changed it and now powers on.

MGA 283 MGA CS3531   tuner C3531R. Unit does not have any reception below channel CATV 20. All other channels are very snowy and get better in the higher channel groups.  Tech tried to order tuner but not available. The problem cleared up when the antenna was connected directly to the tuner, bypassing the A/B antenna relay switch. Suggest to the tech that he clean the relay contacts to correct this problem. Cleaning of the contacts was accomplished by disassembling the RF switch and passing a thin piece of paper between the closed contacts of the relay. The paper was saturated with a de-ox compound. This corrected the symptom.

MGA 356 MGA VS50VA2  V12 vertical jitter MGA VS50VA2. Unit has intermittent vertical jitter. When the chassis was slip out of cabinet the set developed a no raster with sound condition. Unit has no filaments Missing 5 volt to PIP module. The trouble for the filaments was caused by a small 2 pin connector at the Green CRT. The connector pulled out from the board when the main chassis was pulled back.

Tech changed the vertical output IC and several capacitors in the circuit.  Tech did change the charge pump capacitor located between pins 9 and 13 of the LA3878 vertical output but the charge pump diode located between Pin 8 and 13 must also be changed. After replacement of diode unit work fine.

MGA 523 MGA CK35072 JU-0 video smears TV can either have no luminance or Horizontal smear, Vertical Jitters. This a a more indepth by-pass for the, no longer available, PIP module. From Steven Soprou in New Jersey I played around and got perfection on this Mitsubishi CK35702 PIP board that uses the non-bypassable 005 board (no longer available, no bypass board available). The normal bypass is a cap from 5 to 11 for the luma. The problem on this set is that we need 1V PP out at pin 11 but we have 2V PP coming in at pin 5....The solution is to put the - side of a 4.7uf cap to pin 5 and put the + side to a 2.7k resistor, the other end of this resistor goes to pin 11. Then take a 4.7k resistor, attach one end to pin 11 and the other end to ground at pin 4 . This drops the 2vPP to 1VPP. I do this with the VP connector off the PIP board and use the connector only. For the chroma I use a 1uf cap from pins 7 to 9 with the - at pin 7. The pix after the bypass was perfect. I looked at bright and dark scenes and text, and the white box on QVC. No smearing, no glowing, no tearing, no red flames. This looked as good as a Sony at the end.
